El Lago Street Repairs Coming
The City of El Lago is very fortunate to be the recipient of Harris County Metro Funds in the amount of approximately 3 million dollars for a considerable street repair and replacement project. The project is slated to begin in the spring and should be ongoing for 8 to 10 months. Please see the diagram where all street repairs and/or replacements are marked in red. All residents who's streets, sidewalks and/or driveways will be affected will be notified in advance of the projected work on their block.
Reminders from City Hall
City Improvement on the Way - It's an exciting time to be in the City of El Lago.there are so many different improvement projects that are just getting under way. First, take a drive by the new City Hall/Community Center location on Tallowood. You may have noted that the demolition has taken place and the new building slab is being framed up. Scheduled completion of the building is June 11th. I can hardly contain myself.
Next, the County, using Metro dollars in excess of 2.7 million is about to start a major improvement project on the city's streets. The primary focus of the improvements will be to streets located in the older section of El Lago where the streets are 40+ years old. Complete street replacement will take place on Bayou View, Biscayne, Shadow Creek and Tallowood. Other streets which will undergo section repair are Confederate Way, Cedar Lane, Terrace, Pebblebrook, Whitecap, Bayview and Seaway. Of course, when construction is about to commence, all homeowners that will be affected by the construction will be notified and arrangements will be made when and where necessary. Keep an eye on the website where pictures of the construction areas as well as updates on the progress will be posted.
In addition to the street repairs, Metro dollars are also being used to put in much needed parking spaces in the vacant lot to the right of the pool as well as cut in spaces in front of the tennis courts and new building. Construction on the parking areas will begin as construction on the building is completed.
Annual City Licenses -
Just a reminder that annual city licenses are due January 1, 2011:
Pets - All pet cats and dogs should be licensed by the City. Please bring a copy of your pet's rabies vaccination to city hall and receive a pet license and tag for $5.00 per year. You may purchase up to a 3-year license (still at $5.00 each year) with proof of a 3-year rabies vaccination.
Alarms - Home and business alarms are required to be permitted each year. Please be prepared to update or complete an alarm permit form with your alarm company and emergency contact information. Alarm
permits are $5.00 annually.
Recycling Changes - If you somehow missed out on getting delivery of your new, larger, covered AND wheeled recycling bin, just give Ameriwaste a call at 281-331-8400 and they will exchange your old red bin for the new blue one. Also, note that they WILL now take glass in all colors. A full list of accepted recycling materials is available on this website.
EMS Services by Nassau Bay - You may have heard some chatter about the City considering changing contracted Emergency Medical Services. Well, after some diligent investigative work by the Mayor and Council members, the choice was made to switch from CLEMC to Nassau Bay. The average response time of Nassau Bay to El Lago customers is 6.5 minutes which is well below the national average of over 9 minutes. Nassau Bay has equal equipment to that of CLEMC, they have Medics with 10 or more years of experience and their price is about 30% lower.truly a deal that is healthy for our city!

Mosquito Spraying Information and Schedule - The City sprays for mosquitoes (typically starting in the late spring) two to three times a week, depending on the amount of rain we have had and/or complaints of mosquito activity. When they spray, it is usually on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule. They begin at 9:00 p.m. and usually end up at the Boondoggles area at 10:30 p.m. or so. When they see people outside, they stop the spray and only keep the machine running. We use a mixture of mineral oil and Biomist3030, which contains NO DDT. It is a birth inhibitor and has not been shown to have any impact on humans.
