Scenes from the 2008 City Celebration

WOW, What a great time! If you missed it, then you missed a great afternoon out in absolutely perfect spring weather listening to live Zydeco music and visiting with friends and neighbors. We had a huge turnout to enjoy the crawfish, catfish, redbeans and rice cooked and provided by Jeff Hicks and his staff from Boondoggles. The hot dogs were great as usual due to the expert grilling by the Clear Lake Masonic Lodge. And, if you were one of the lucky ones, then you got to taste the crab stuffed jalapenos from Valdos. Many, many thanks to Jon and Jennifer Smith of Xtreme Electrical for providing all the yummy deserts – what a spread. Of course, we cannot say thank you enough to all those residents and vendors who so generously contributed money, supplies and time. Please remember to say thanks to the following when you see them…

Donations:  AmeriWaste - Trash Receptacles; Bay Area Meat Market - Corn for the crawfish boil; Boondoggles - Crawfish, Catfish, Redbeans and Rice, Condiments; Classic Café - Hot Dogs, Buns, Potatoes; Clear Creek Equipment Rental - 2 generators; Clear Lake Masonic Lodge – Cooks; Sign Town - Glendora M. Hill Day banner; Valdo’s - Stuffed Jalapeños and chips; Xtreme Electric - All Deserts

Financial contributions were provided by: Bosone Automotive, Brooks Concrete, Buccaneer Construction, El Lago Committee, El Lago Estates Civic Corp., Garson Silvers, Harris County WCID #50, the Montandon Family (Glendora Hill’s family), Natalie Ong and the Taylorcrest Community Association.

The event was extra special as the day had been declared Glendora M. Hill Day after the late City Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem. She was a wonderful lady and will be sorely missd by all.

Also thank yous go to Mayor Brad Emel, the members of City Council: Natalie Ong, Amy Carr, John Tull, David Noffsinger and Jeff Tave; and last but not least a special thank you to City Secretary Ann Vernon and Court Administrator Brenda Klingle.

A very big thanks to the City of El Lago Maintenance Team, Felix Marquez and Luis Perez, for all the outstanding jobs they did before, during and after to make sure the celebration was a success.

The pictures below were provided by El Lago resident Al Ong and City of El Lago Webmaster Clive Taylor.

Glendora M. Hill Day

By order of Mayor Brad Emel, Saturday, April 5, 2008, was declared Glendora M. Hill Day in honor of the late Mayor Pro Tem and longtime El Lago resident. She was a tireless worker for the City of El Lago, both as a member of Council and a volunteer. Many events held in the City are the direct result of the efforts of Mrs. Hill, including the Fourth of July Parade and celebration, the Candles in the Park ceremony, the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and the El Lago Historical Society.

Mayor Brad Emel and City Council

It was a very emotional time for the members of the El Lago City Council and Mayor Emel as they read the proclamation declaring Saturday, June 5, 2008, as Glendora M. Hill Day. From left, Council members Jeff Tave, John Tully, Natalie Ong, Amy Carr, David Noffsinger and Mayor Brad Emel.
