ParksParks Board NewsThe next meeting is scheduled for March 22nd. For further details, contact the El Lago City Secretary, 281.326.1951, ext. 12, or one of the Parks Board members listed below. Building, building, building - Have you noticed we’re building a park? Well, actually it’s been there for a long time. Armstrong Park (named after former resident, Neil Armstrong) is adjacent to our City Hall at 98 Lakeshore Drive. For years it’s been primarily open ground, but a few years ago the El Lago Parks Board decided to turn it into a real park. We started slow. First came a very nice gazebo with a picnic bench. But what’s a park without trees? O.K. there was a few trashy Chinese tallow which hopefully come down in the near future, and a scrawny crape myrtle, but not the type of trees that constitute a park. So in just a few short years (about 3) we have seen to the planting of 13 ‘real’ trees in Armstrong Park. Three were donated by the Dig ‘n’ Design Garden Club (red oak, lacebark elm, evergreen pear), one by Ann Vernon our City Secretary (maple), one by a Master Gardener friend of yours truly (magnolia), one by the Friends of the Bay Area Alliance of Youth and Families (oak), and the most recent donation was four Trident Maples donated by Larry Adams, owner of Bay Area Design & Landscape. Ten of these trees gave been purchased from or donated by Bay Area Design & Landscape, 2702 Red Bluff in Seabrook. The El Lago Parks Board would like to take this opportunity to thank all of these folks for their generous contributions toward beautifying our city. There is still plenty of open ground in Armstrong Park just waiting for a few more trees. Please know that we are still open to accepting donations in case you are interested. Some of our trees have been planted in memory of a loved one, and what a nice gesture it would be to plant a tree in celebration of a birth. We do however reserve the right to approve the type of tree to be planted. If you are interested, the name of any board member and phone number can be obtained at City Hall. El Lago has two other parks, McNair and Witty. Wouldn’t it be nice to have ‘your’ tree in one of our parks? The Parks Board is always looking for new members. We try to meet in City Hall at 7:00 P.M. on the last Monday of the month. We make an effort to keep the meetings short, so as not to take too much time away from our families. Visitors are always welcome to sit in at our meetings, and we appreciate your input. If you would like to be apprised of the date and time of our next meeting - give one of us a call.
